Samsung Galaxy S8 review

As mentioned by Phone Arena, this new phone was revolutionary in terms of the design and size of its 5.8-inch curved screen, which occupies almost its entire surface. With its Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, this cell phone is very powerful in terms of performance.

The middle button was removed to give even more space to the screen and the camera had improvements in the software, which makes it one of the best you can have on a mobile device. It has a fingerprint reader in the back that can sometimes be confused with the camera, as Android Central warns, but this can be solved with the iris reader of the front camera.

With a price of $725 dollars, it is one of the best high-end options in terms of the quality / price ratio.

The Galaxy Note 8 the latest tabletphone from Samsung

After the controversy generated by the problems with the Note 7 battery, the Korean company Samsung sought to recover the lost ground with a powerful and innovative device. With a 6.3-inch OLED screen that occupies almost the entire front of the phone, this cell phone is the first of the company that features a dual camera and is probably the most powerful Android device at the moment.

Its 6 GB RAM allows this device to do enough tasks at the same time. Its internal storage is 64, 128 or 256 GB and is expandable. As Android Authority highlights, the presence of the stylus takes the editing of texts, videos and photographs a step further. This cell phone has an IP 68 resistance to water, that is to a depth of 1.5 meters, as well as dust protection.

As CNET points out, this device drags the problems of the Samsung Galaxy S8 in terms of the strange location of the finger print reader located in the back.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a market price of $950 dollars.

It is not a tablet or a phone. This new release of Samsung is more like a ‘tabletphone’. Its internal memory can hold up to 64 giggabytes of storage. It also comes with an ‘S Pen’, an electronic pen to navigate the phone more easily. The new model comes with a built-in quick charge mechanics. With this, you can charge up to 60% of the battery of the electronic device in a short period of time.

Camera

We need to talk about the Galaxy Note 8’s camera. The two 12 megapixel sensors are capable of doing wonders in automatic mode of this device. It is clear that we can get more juice in the ‘Pro’ mode, but it will be more than enough with the automatic for most users. Its secondary camera has telephoto, which allows us to zoom X2 without losing image quality. This is something that we have been seeing for years in compact cameras, but that now begins to reach mobile phones.

This camera leaves us with one of the best experiences in the market. Its quality is incredible, as well as the detail it gets in up close shots. The contrast, saturation and brightness level is managed almost perfectly in automatic mode, although in very complicated scenes or backlighting, it may be worth switching to ‘Pro’ mode to set the exposure to your liking.

Battery life

The Galaxy Note 8 has a battery of 3,300 mAh, which although it leaves us with a day of use but don’t expect to  have 8 or 9 hours of screen like in other devices of this range. But even so, expect to have more than enough batter for every day tasks. This is remarkable, because although there are devices with this size that offer us more battery life, few have the screen quality and performance of this device. By using it intensively you will be able to hold it all day without any problem, so users who use it more modestly may reach the end of the day more comfortable. You can wait between 5 and a half hours and 6 hours of active screen with a varied use.

S-Pen

One of the things that characterizes the Note range from its beginning is the inclusion of the S-Pen. In this Note 8 we also have it. It has 4096 pressure levels and IP67 certification against water and dust. When removing the S-Pen from the body of the Note 8, it offers several common tools that may be convenient (or not). There are users who take great advantage of the stylus to navigate the device, and others who use it for more artistic tasks. It is an extra that in many occasions will be appreciated.

Google Pixel 2 XL review, one of the top Android phones on the market

One of the main features to stick out in the Google Pixel 2 XL is the screen. Mainly because when it went on sale, the saturation and contrast of its P-OLED panel were very low, and what Google considered “natural colors” were actually the palest colors we had seen on any phone. Two weeks after its launch, almost all the reviews on the Internet had already come out, criticizing its screen (with all the reason in the world).

However, shortly after Google updated it it thanks to “Saturated Colors” mode, which could be called “Normal Colors”, and completely corrected the problem in the Google Pixel 2 XL. Not only can I say that it is no longer a bad screen, but now it is a very good panel, for maximum brightness, saturation, contrast and colors (very accomplished white and pure black).

Inside the Google Pixel 2 XL, we will find Qualcomm’s top end Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, you can opt for a 64GB or a128GB version. The Pixel 2 XL comes with front-facing stereo speakers and OLED display with a 6-inch display that has a resolution of 2880 x 1440 (538 PPI).

The phone also features FullHD + and Its aspect ratio is 18: 9 (or 2: 1). The screen is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5. There is however one minor issue which was not updated by Google, that is the viewing angles: when turning the device slightly, the colors become blue. But this shouldn’t be an issue if you use the phone facing you.

The other minor glitch is the absence of the input for the headphones. If you’re used to using Bluetooth and wireless headphones, great, if not you have to purchase them.

Its construction is mainly aluminum, combined with a glass strip at the back. Of course, on Google’s site it says that its made of aluminum and has a “hybrid coating.”

Aesthetically it’s a matter of taste, I like it a lot since the Pixels are the few that combine metal and glass in the back, it’s something different. The rear camera has a very small bulge, barely a millimeter. It has IP67 certification, so we can rest easy when using it in the rain or if it accidentally falls into water. Its thickness is 7.9 millimeters and its weight of 175 grams to place it in the middle of the pack, nothing to highlight here.

Cameras, the best of the market

What to say that has not already been said of the camera of the Google Pixel 2 XL … is tremendous. It is difficult to compare the cameras of different phones and get a clear winner, since each one can be good in some aspects as others, for sure it is in the Top 3 of all phones, for video Samsungs are still better (especially in terms of focusing speed), however as a camera, the Pixel 2 XL is the clear winner.

Having a single camera in the back (12.2 megapixels and aperture f / 1.8), it can take pictures in portrait mode (blurring the background) with total precision, even superior to mobile dual camera. And as it does by software, it applies the same algorithms to the front camera, and can also make portraits in selfie mode.

Performance and software

There is no denying that the Google Pixel 2 XL is a powerhouse. The opening of applications is instantaneous, and the load times in the games are as fast as any other device. The fact that Android stock is very noticeable. Very much. Other mobiles with the same configuration with a Snapdragon 835, Adreno 540 and 4 GB of RAM, do not work equally well. The Pixel 2 XL can take it all and without lowering the framerate or trimming animations. It is always complicated when compared with other operating systems (such as the iPhone!), But within the Android world, it is the one that has better performance.

As for the software, it does have Android 8.0.0 Oreo. It has 2 interesting additions, hidden within Settings / System:

  • Active Edge: The Pixel 2 XL has sensors on the sides of the device, which when pressed, activates the Google Assistant. From the settings it can be deactivated (by default it is activated) or change the pressure sensitivity.
  • Slide the fingerprint sensor for notifications: by making a gesture down on the fingerprint sensor, the notifications panel is displayed, and by doing so again, open the Quick Settings. Personally I have it disabled, since in more than one occasion I have opened it without wanting to, but it is interesting to know that the option is there.

The “ambient screen” to the Always On Display, is already a standard in the top range of smart phones and its also found in the Pixel 2 XL. It shows us both the current time and the icon of the applications that have launched a notification. We can activate the double-tap option on the screen to turn it on, or when notifications are received, the content of the notification will be displayed on the screen. The phone also has a notification LED, although it is disabled by default, and we can activate it from the notification settings.

Pricing

The Pixel 2 XL come with a $849 price tag for the 64GB version, and $949 price tag for the 128GB model. And only available in black or white color.

Acer Predator Helios 300 a good priced gaming laptop

Acer Predator Helios 300 comes loaded with a 15.6-inch FHD screen an Intel Core i7-7700HQ, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 graphics card and 16 GB RAM and two disks.

Acer Predator Helios 300 is a solid gaming laptop. It is made with attention to detail and the quality of the materials used (plastic and aluminum) looks really impressive. The whole construction feels quite strong, and feels like its resistant to pressure even with high force. Also the design of the laptop is attractive – the black is met with red accents, it looks beautiful.

Helios 300 is available, of course, in many configurations, varying in processor, graphics card, memory, or disk size. The entry level configuration runs about $1050 USD. Is that a lot? At first glance yes, but at second look compared at the offerings of other manufacturers the price is fair. And in this case the price is adequate.

Final Score:
high quality
attractive housing design
good overall performance and 3D capabilities
Convenient keyboard and touchpad
matt IPS screen

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 lets you unlock your phone just by looking at it

What’s good: Despite warnings about using the new iris scanner while wearing glasses or contacts lenses — like I do — the new unlocking method is fast and works fine with both. Coloured contacts or sunglasses or anything that blocks the retina is an issue. It is an excellent addition, but it’s not perfect. The S Pen stylus continues to get better. For instance, now the always-on lock screen automatically turn into a notepad when you pull out the stylus, so you take notes on it without unlocking the phone, making it perfect for quick notes and reminders. As well, there is an easy and fun GIF creation tool. The Note 7’s screen is best in class and is still a big reason people will buy this phone. The camera is also very good. I am not a big fan of the company’s dual edge screen, but it is hard not to be impressed with how the design of this phone makes it feel smaller than it is. The company wanted to make it easier to use with one hand, and it has succeeded.

What’s bad: The iris scanner does not work well in really bright sunny conditions. As well, when it can’t read your eyes, it asks you to widely open them, so my family has made fun of me for the weird looks I give my phone when it’s not working well. The battery is a little smaller than the last model. The GIF making software is clunky. The side launcher now features special apps that you can pay for, although I found little that seemed worth shelling out for.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 getting ready to hit the market with impressive promotion

There is good news on the Microsoft side as the company gets ready to release its Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Windows tablet and according to sources it is going to rely on a pretty impressive promotion plan [via]. While we say the Surface Pro 4 was a good device, the pricing model may have been a bit too expensive for a lot of people.

The new promotion involves taking $300 off Surface Pro 4’s retail price when they buy the 4th-generation 2-in-1 device along with Xbox One. Technically speaking, the whole discount offer sounds more like free Xbox One for every Surface Pro 4 purchase according to Windows head Terry Myerson in a recent interview with The Verge.

The Surface Pro 4 device comes with Windows 10 full edition and a raft of nice features and high-end specs. Under the hood, the base model runs on Intel Core M3 for $899. The higher configuration variant powered by Intel Core i7 sells for $1599.The Student-only deal is valid up until August 14, International Business Times reported.
