Fresh off the press, Google didn’t want to be left behind for notebook supremacy as today it announced its new Pixel Chromebook 2, that will come with a Intel Core i5 CPU also know as Broadwell, it will come with 8GB RAM features an aluminum body much like a Macbook, its screen will be a 2560 x 1700 13-inch touchscreen and come with a 32GB SSD.

Also taking a page from Apple, the new Chromebook Pixel 2 will also use an USB-C port, this may in fact be the next-gen when it comes to notebooks but the Pixel 2 features two Type C ports as well one on each side.
Setting the new Chromebook Pixel apart from Apple’s Macbook has to do with the fact that the Pixel come with a touchscreen, and glass trackpad.

Apple launches 5 USB-C adapters for the new MacBook

Do people really have the need to connect that many devices to their Macbook ?

With the recent news about the new Retina 12-inch MacBook, a new category of ultra portables is out and is even competing in weight and size with the very iPad, and if the original MacBook Air caused quite a stir with removal of its optical drive, this new model could pose similar reactions due its single, tiny USB-C port.

I have no doubt that for many it will suffice, but Apple has had to cover all its bases (as it did that day when it announced an optional external optical drive for the Macbook Air) with a series of five USB-C adapters.

USB-C to USB Adapter, $19

Currently it is virtually impossible to find serial accessories designed for the new Intel reversible connector, so this adapter is practically a must buy cable if you aspire to connect an external hard drive, your iPhone or iPad. The end is USB 3.1 Gen 1, which means you can get transfer rates up to 5Gbps with compatible devices.

apple usb c 1

USB-C digital AV Multiport Adapter ($79)

At the presentation yesterday, Apple stressed the nature of the “all in one” USB-C connector and they did not lie. With this adapter you can connect to a monitor your MacBook via HDMI 1080p, another USB accessories (and yes, it is again compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1) and a USB-C cable that also charge the laptop all at the same time.

apple usb c 2

USB to VGA-C Multiport Adapter ($79)

Essentially identical in every way as the above model, except instead of an HDMI port we find one VGA port.

The multiport adapter USB to VGA-C adaptor allows you to display the screen of your MacBook on a TV or monitor with VGA up to 1080p HD. Can also be used for multimedia content such as movies and videos. Simply plug the adapter into the USB-C port on your MacBook and then to a TV or projector using a VGA cable (sold separately).

apple usb c 3

USB-C Apple Power Adapter with 29 W ($49)

Neither more nor less than an identical power adapter that came with your MacBook in its case. By itself does not do much unless you may have to replace the original after misplacing at an airport (factual).

apple usb c 5

USB-C Transfer Cable ($29)

Finally, the other half of the equation of power adapter, the USB-C 2 meter cable with USB connectors at both ends. As in the previous models it comes included one in the box of the MacBook, so its main use is as a replacement or to use as a second set cable / charger to leave home or at the office.Th

This cable can also be used to synchronize and transfer data between USB-C devices, and although Apple says is compatible with USB 2, in theory it should comply with USB 3.1 Gen 1 or above devices.

[Compare] Microsoft Surface Pro 3 vs Apple MacBook 2015

Ever since Apple announced its new range of laptops. This has obviously attracted the attention people online, as it seems that Apple has released the Macbook to try to compete in portability with the Surface Pro 3, even if this means sacrificing power.

Surface 3 vs Macbook

Screen

In both devices we have a 12-inch screen, although with different resolutions. On the MacBook, Apple uses the so-called Retina Display configuration with a resolution of 2,304 x 1,440, while the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 uses what they call HD Plus, with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,440. So that, in terms of pixel density, victory, although minimal, goes to the MacBook with 226 ppi versus 216 ppi.

But not everything could be summed with pixels on a screen, and the great differentiating factor of the MacBook versus Surface  Pro 3 is in terms of touch interface, which the new Apple laptop does not have. That, along with the aspect ratio of 3: 2 make tasks like taking notes much easier on the Microsoft tablet, while the MacBook uses a 16:10 ratio more aimed at multimedia.

Hardware

Comparison Surface vs MacBook Pro 3 -hardware

Inside-Surface-Pro-3
Hardware Surface Pro 3

We start with the processor, the new MacBook Intel Core processors have been built around the Intel Core M with a 1.1 or 1.2 GHz, similar to that used by the Vexia Portablet Core M, while the Surface Pro 3, depending on the configuration chosen, uses Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, from 1.5 GHz to 1.9 GHz. In terms of graphics, they all use Intel integrated graphics, hardly notable differences.

In terms of storage, the MacBook uses flash memory, 256 or 512 GB, meanwhile, Microsoft chose to go with SSDs for its Surface Pro 3, allowing configurations of 64, 128, 256 or 512 GB, and drawing from the power of super fast read-write cycles that allows the SSD to be better than flash memory.

The Surface Pro 3, thanks to its 5 configurable models in which it is sold, come with 4 or 8 GB of RAM. The new MacBook is sold only with 8GB of RAM.

Since we all need to connect various gadgets or device into our computers, or in this case, “a tablet which aims to replace a laptop.” The Surface Pro 3 comes with USB 3.0, exactly like the one found on our computers, has a Mini DisplayPort port, one 3.5 mm to connect our headsets and microSD XC card reader.

Meanwhile, Apple seems to have gotten rid connector ports in its MacBook relying only a single USB Type-C and 3.5mm, so if you want to connect a USB flash drive to your new MacBook you will have to buy the adapter Type-C to USB that Apple sells for around $30 dollars.

In terms of connectivity, both devices have Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 ac. For video calls, the MacBook has a camera that recrods at 480p, while the Surface Pro 3 has a front camera of 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD recording. We must also remember that the Surface Pro 3 is a tablet and, therefore, has another rear camera of 5 megapixels.

Inside Macbook
Inside Macbook

Putting hardware of the Surface  Pro 3 vs the MacBook, we see a clear winner in the Microsoft tablet, despite being released in 2014.

Design

In size, MacBook and Surface Pro 3 are extremely similar in size, but we need to stress the thickness found in the Apple Macbook, its only 0.35 cm! standard even in its basic configuration. But it is necessary to add, that in the advanced settings, the Surface Pro 3 is about 4 millimeters thinner.

Where was Apple wants to emphasize is in its portability, and weight is a vital factor, and so far has managed to lighten its MacBook from 2.3 kg to the current 0.92 Kg, but has failed to beat the 0.8 Kg of Surface Pro 3. We should clarify at this point that weight is without any keyboard if it is included it may slightly exceed the weight of the MacBook.

Operating System

To compare Windows 8.1 with OS X Yosemite could be pretty subjective, we should at least stress the fact that 90% of programs are using Windows for development  as  OS X is more geared to the production of multimedia playback while Windows is more oriented for production environments.

Price

The basic model of the MacBook, with a 1.1 GHz Core M and 256 GB of internal memory, found, in North America starts at $1,300, while the Surface Pro 3 model  with an i3 1.5 GHz and 64GB of storage, will be $800. For its part, the Surface Pro 3 depending on configuration, ranges from $800 up to $1,900 for the i7  1.7 GHz with a 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM.

If we take a configuration that is in the price range of a new MacBook and find a Surface Pro 3 priced similarly for $1,550, we would be looking at an Intel Core i7, 256GB SSD and 8GB of RAM found in Surface Pro 3, instead the similarly priced option from Apple only gives us a 1.2GHz with 8GB RAM and 512 SSD. Therefore, in value, Microsoft also wins here.
