Samsung EX2F: High performance camera with great aperture and Wi-Fi

 Posted on 3 July 2012

Samsung has announced by “surprise” the latest addition to its “point and shoot” range of cameras, the new version of its high performance EX1 camera launched in early 2010. The new compact EX2F camera from the Korean manufacturer is very successful with features that put it in the “high end” area of cameras in its category, beginning with its interesting lens with a f/1.4 maximum aperture that is very fast, which allows a large amount of light allowing it to obtain clear, sharp images when lighting conditions are not optimal.

This Samsung EX2F integrates a backlit CMOS sensor of 1/1.7 inch and 12.4-megapixel capable of shooting in RAW, and full HD video recording at 30 frames per second, with the ability to take snapshots while video is recording, a very useful feature and certainly a welcome edition in many situations.

Its 24-80mm lens, which the company claims is the “brightest” among all compact cameras, is equivalent to a 3.3 optical zoom with an optical OIS + DIS stabilization increase and can provide an f/2.7 aperture in its maximum focal length, pretty decent for a camera in this category. The camera also has a neutral density filter that helps capture colors correctly especially when we do not have too much light.

The new Samsung EX2F supports ISO from 80 to 3200, and an 12800 ISO in forced mode, incorporates a 3-inch AMOLED display screen with an “arm” that can deploy and rotated 180 degrees, and a front control wheel for easy access to the manual modes. Like its “cousins” from the NX series, the Samsung compact camera adds “smart” features such as as its remote viewer, mobile link to share images, send photos via email or automatic backup

The new advanced compact camera from Samsung is one in thousands, like its competitors in this field, such as the Canon G1X with its impressive close up sensor APS-C and similar models, and like them its price is worthy of more “advanced” cameras. Samsung EX2F is said to arrive in mid-August with a price tag of 429 pounds in the UK, equivalent to about 533 Euros at current exchange rates.
