New update to 3DMark now supports DirectX 12 and compares various DirectX versions

Futuremark has now released a new update for its new synthetic 3DMark, it is the Overhead API test a feature which happens to be the first independent test that analyzes the differences in performance between DirectX 12 and DirectX 11 and also AMD’s Mantle. It is also the first public test DX12 and the up soon to be released, Khronos Group’s Vulkan API.


The purpose of this test is to compare the performance between different APIs of a single system. The Overhead API feature is not a benchmark test designed for GPUs (or compare graphics cards from different manufacturers)


  • DirectX 12 requires a PC with a Windows 10 Technical Preview (build 10041 or later) updated 4 GB of system memory and a graphics card DirectX level 11 or compatible hardware with 1GB of memory.
  • Mantle requires a system with 4GB and AMD hardware that supports this API.
  • DirectX 11 requires DirectX hardware level 11 or compatible with 1GB of video memory and $ GB of system.
