The newly launched Glose seems that it is just a new e-reader, but no it is much more than that. Its creators see it as a reading platform because, besides allowing us to read books, the service has an important social aspect.
Glose provides a respective mobile app, and a web client. But it also offers a catalog of books for purchase. Yes, it seems that this is a competitor to Amazon, but the idea goes a bit further, as well as the purchase of books the application allows us to meet other users reading the same book, and view saved annotation that are shared.
Besides downloading the app, and buying a book, we need to open a profile on the service that we can harness its social aspect; can make notes in books, and comment on entries from other users.
It also allows highlighting text with simply touching parts of it and with respect to the notes, we can add text, images, or even video ( other users can give them a “like” so that they would first show the most popular ) .
Glose is not a paid service, but we will have to purchase the books from the same application; therefore it is more like Amazon than other eBook readers.
As mentioned, the platform features a mobile and desktop versions, but the mobile version for now is limited to iOS and the Android app is coming soon.
