Gigabyte chooses its WindForce heatsink to cool Radeon R9 290X

First it was Asus and MSI then, and now it’s time for Gigabyte to show what will be its new custom heatsink for its AMD Radeon R9 290 Series. The choice could not be other than its acclaimed WindForce sink, which Gigabyte has used in all high-end models of the brand since its introduction. This cooler can cool up to 450W of heat and seems an ideal complement for the Radeon R9 290 Series, which is well known to reach a high temperature with reference coolers.

This cooler has three WindForce fans, according to Gigabyte is capable of cooling up to 450W of heat and is 15.9 dBa quieter than the reference model. We will have to see how it behaves with the Radeon R9 290x and R9 290, but things look good, since we have seen this cooler in the past, and it is quiet and cool.

Incidentally, according to the Gigabyte source they would have applied overclocking to its core speed up to 1,040 Mhz over the custom model. Remembering that the R9 290 Series are underclocked themselves to protect against the high temperatures it reaches, this is a sure sign that Gigabyte is very sure its WindForce cooler would keep these graphics cool. Good for Gigabyte !
