GeForce GTX 660 Ti: First review of its performance

Its price is similar to the Radeon HD 7870, but its performance will be higher.
The GeForce GTX 660 Ti is the upcoming graphics card based on the Kepler architecture to hit the market, its release date is scheduled for August 16. Just a few days ago we heard of its specifications and days later we saw the first images, so now we only need to know its performance. Thanks to the website Tweaktown we know the performance of the GTX 660 Ti.

First, recall the specifications of the GTX 660 Ti. The GTX 660 Ti is equipped with the core GK 104, the same used in the GTX 690, GTX 680 and GTX 670, CUDA Cores will be 1344. With regard to memory, will be equipped with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory with 192-bit interface. Their frequencies will be 915 MHz for the GPU, 980 MHz with GPU Boost and 6 GHz for memory.

Comparing specifications GTX 660 Ti and GTX 670, GTX 660 Ti is almost identical to the GTX 670, they just changed the memory interface, so it also reduces the bandwidth to 144 GB / s. These specifications are not confirmed by Nvidia, but seeing the capture of the GPU Z program by Tweaktown we see that it does match these specifications.

The GTX 660 Ti gets a score on 3DMark11 Extreme Preset, 2677 and in Performance Preset points it gets 8589 points. Comparing these results with the Radeon HD 7950 and GTX 670, we can say that the GTX 660 Ti has a 14% performance over the Radeon HD 7950 and 6.4% lower than the GTX 670. Its gaming performance is also quite good, in some cases has similar performance to the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition.

At first it was thought that the GTX 660 Ti would compete with the Radeon HD 7870, but seeing these results we can say that its performance will be competing in the Radeon HD 7950. But considering the possible price, of about $300, this new graphics card will bring AMD problems, since in spite of the price drop that it recently made in its Radeon HD 7000, this new card will have similar performance to the Radeon HD 7950 but the price will be similar to the Radeon HD 7870, so AMD would have to react now.

Although not only would this be a headache for AMD, as for Nvidia this would also cause a problem, since its performance is very similar to the GTX 670 and it sells for around $300, 100 less than the GTX 670, so many will choose the GTX 660 Ti.

Despite the good results obtained by the GTX 660 Ti, I must say if you activate the anti-aliasing and is used on monitors with higher resolutions, the Radeon HD 7950 is a better option.
