AMD Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition: Officially Launched, details inside

 

It’s official, AMD launched its graphics card AMD Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition, an enhanced version of the HD 7970 that brings in the new graphics core Tahiti XT2. As a novelty, the  Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition presents PowerTune Boost technology, which is achieved by raising the frequency from 1000 MHz to 1050MHz. In addition also increased the memory speed up to 6.000Mhz effectively.

Previously we have talked about a graphics card that AMD was preparing, the AMD Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition, yesterday it was officially launched and revealed all the details. The main one is the incorporation of the new graphics core Tahiti XT2, an evolution of Tahiti XT that run at a higher frequency but with a lower voltage.

As its name suggests, the Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition brings a GPU that runs at 1 Ghz, a significant increase compared to the previous 925MHz model. The frequency of memory also increases, effective passes from 5.500Mhz to 6.000Mhz. In addition it has also been added AMD PowerTune technology, which is similar to technology used by Nvidia GPU Boost.

AMD has once again done a great job, as the AMD Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition is positioned as the fastest graphics monoGPU card on the market, beating the GTX 680 from Nvidia. The downside is that it costs $499, the same price as the GTX 680, and in terms of consumption, noise and overclock the HD 7970 Ghz Edition is better.
